Since 1951 the members of the Pointe-Claire Volunteer Rescue Unit have been providing the community and neighboring towns with emergency services. A team of ex-servicemen who wanted to continue serving their community in time of peace after World War II started the Rescue Unit. In the early years the unit had a few army stretchers, some blankets, and a few feet of rope, and the ability and skills to put them to good use.
Today the unit has expanded its role in the new millennium. With the advances in rescue training and equipment, the unit has become an excellent community service ready 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Each of the twenty volunteer members undergo training to be First Responders, Search and Rescuers, Red Cross Disaster Relief Personnel, Civil Defenders, and in many more specialized areas as described on this website.
Best of all, this is funded by the City of Pointe-Claire and the services of the unit are rendered free of charge to the citizens.
